On Saturday, June 16, Colin Garrett will make his first career road-course start in the No. 18 Propel GPS Toyota Camry at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey where the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will host the JUSTDRIVE.com 125.
“I am really excited to run at New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend,” the 17-year-old rookie driver said. “I’ve always wanted to run road course races over the years, so it’s really exciting I finally get to. I think it’ll be a great learning experience for me as well as everyone at HSR.”
Following his third top-10 finish in only four career K&N East starts, Colin Garrett is excited to break away from oval-racing to test his strengths on the 2.25-mile length Thunderbolt Course at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Garrett tested at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) on Sunday in a late model stock car to get acclimated with the road-course experience. VIR holds a heavy significance for Garrett as it is his home-track in addition to South Boston Speedway.
“I had a ton of fun learning the ins and outs of stock car road racing,” Garrett said. “Road course racing, in general, is pretty special to me. It has always been a passion of mine even though I haven’t been able to do it much. It’s spectacular, there’s nothing else like it.”
Sam Hunt, co-owner of Hunt-Sellers Racing, is proud of HSR’s efforts throughout its campaign this season. Of the four races the team has entered, the No. 18 Propel GPS Toyota Camry has gathered three top-10 finishes, including one top-five finish at South Boston Speedway.
“I’m excited to get to New Jersey. It’s our first road-course of the year,” said Hunt. “We have been really consistent so far this season and getting solid results. We’re looking to improve on our eighth-place finish at Memphis.”
Hunt notes that road-course racing comes with its own set of challenges but is confident in the team’s versatility and preparedness for the weekend to come. He is looking forward to seeing Garrett make his career road-course debut.
“It feels like yesterday that I was making my first career road-course start in the K&N car. As a team, we are all excited to help Colin prepare for this race and to watch him adapt to a new discipline.”
Garrett thanks Propel GPS, EMRYS Properties, Liquid Performance, Mission 22 and Simpson Race Products for making this opportunity possible.
The 55-lap JUSTDRIVE.com 125 will begin at 6 p.m. EST. Extended highlights of this race will air on NBC Sports Network’s NASCAR America on Monday, June 18
