Rookie Colin Garrett Confident for Casey’s General Store 150 at Iowa Speedway

On Friday, July 27, Colin Garrett will make his eighth NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (KNPSE) career start in the Casey’s General Store 150 at Iowa Speedway in the No. 18 Propel GPS Toyota Camry with Hunt-Sellers Racing.

DSC_2576“I’m looking forward to getting on a new track, especially one that is as prestigious as Iowa,” the rookie driver said. “The track looks as if it will cater to my driving style more than most of the tracks we’ve run this season.”

Garrett notes that New Hampshire Motor Speedway last Saturday was a “different animal” than he is used to, so he is looking forward to getting back to a track that favors his style of driving a bit more. To prepare for the highly anticipated K&N Pro Series East/West combination race, he has been practicing on “iRacing”, a racing simulator.

While practicing with the simulator has boosted Garrett’s confidence heading into Friday’s race, he has also had the help of his driver coach and spotter Frank Deiny Jr. and NASCAR Xfinity Series competitor Justin Allgaier.

“Frank actually won earlier this year at Iowa Speedway as the spotter for Justin Allgaier in the Xfinity Series, so I’ll be able to use him and Justin to get familiar with the track,” Garrett said.

HSR’s team owner, Sam Hunt, is excited to head to Iowa Speedway as well. He believes that tracks like Iowa will bring their own set of challenges, but he also looks forward to tackling those challenges.

“I’m very excited for Colin to get his first start at Iowa Speedway this weekend,” Hunt said. “It’s a challenging track but it’s a lot of fun too. These bigger tracks are all going to bring challenges, but they also present the most opportunity for progression. I’m excited to see Colin progress throughout the even like has been doing all season.”

Garrett thanks his sponsors and partners Propel GPS, EMRYS Properties, Liquid Performance, Mission 22 and Simpson Race Products for making this opportunity possible.

The Casey’s General Store 150 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa will begin at 7:30 p.m. CST. The race will be on tape-delay on NBC Sports Network on Thursday, August 2 at 6 p.m. EST.
